Fractional laser is an ablative treatment for patients requiring a more intense treatment for acne scarring and severe ageing, which need resurfacing.
A slightly softer ablative treatment can also be performed on patients with fine lines and mild ageing concerns.
A minimum of 3 sessions is always recommended for any skin condition we treat. More sessions are always required for an acne-scarred skin type.
Your body will reproduce its lost collagen to help rejuvenate and help with scarring after we have damaged the skin to promote the body’s healing programme. This condition affects nearly 10% of adults and is quite common between the ages of 30 and 60 years old. It may have a negative impact on your professional and social life.
Patients are advised to stay away from sun exposure and sunbeds for 2 weeks weeks prior to any fractional laser re-surfacing treatment to avoid any issues with skin sensitivity. It is imperative for the client to stop taking any medications that may cause skin sensitivity to a ablative laser treatment eg Antibiotics of any kind. Avoid Retinoids and vitamin c that can cause skin sensitivity speak to your doctor ( GP ) prior to stopping any essential medication.
The skin is thoroughly cleansed, and a topical numbing cream is applied. The numbing cream stays on for 30 mins to help minimise discomfort. After the numbing cream is removed, you will be given a cooling machine hose to help aid and control the heat of the skin whilst the practitioner begins the fractional resurfacing laser treatment.
When the skin is in the healing process after a fractional laser procedure, you must avoid make-up for the first 48 hours. Avoid all direct sun contact for four weeks, wear an SPF 30/50 daily and re-applying where possible this is very important. After the skin has been damaged, it must stay away from the sun to help prevent causing pigmentation while the skin is in its healing space. Avoid anything for the first 48 hrs that creates heat, sauna, steam, gym etc. If in any sun, please wear SPF 30/50 plus a hat to ensure the protection of your skin. What you do as a patient after treatment is as, if not more important than the treatment itself.
